"Thanks so much for still having the Red Spot as part of your website. I accessed it for my oldest daughter several years ago and ordered her a bracelet. Now it's time to order the bracelet for her little sister and we'll cruise your site when she's ready. I love the cool way the site is layed out and appreciate the fact that it's still there when I need it again! "

A Time to Celebrate, A Celebration of a Girl's First Menstral Period, By Joan Morais.

This is a wonderful book written by the mother of three girls, and a lovely gift to give to the special young girl in your life. The author encourages celebration of what a wonderous time this is in life and congratulates the reader in joining the ranks of beautiful, powerful women throughout the world. The books offers creative ways to celebrate your first menstrual period like bead a gorgeous bracelet or drink sparkling apple juice out of a red goblet. There is plenty of room within the pages of the book for writing about feelings, dreams, and thoughts. The author covers the ins and outs of what exactly is going on within your body, decisions between pads or tampons, how to keep track ( with calendar charts ) and how to deal with PMS and cramps. This book really is a wonderful find. Paperback

The Seven Sacred Rites of Menarche, The Spiritual Journey of the Adolescent Girl, By Kristi Meisenbach Boylan.

A beautifully written book by the author of The Seven Rites of Menopause speaks from the heart to the journey that we as women embark on as we step into womanhood through menarche. I believe this is a valuable read for both mothers and daughters as it can remind us as the adults who raise girls what we went through in our early years and how we can better identify with our daughters on a spiritual level. The Seven Rites include:

Ebbing and Flowing: the call of the outer world
The emotional waters of puberty
The bonds of sisterhood
The first moon cycle
Living on the banks of the outer world
Moving inland
The core of the outer world
I would recommend this book for anyone who wants a better understanding of how to honor and nurture a girls spirit during this exciting time. Paperback

The What's Happening to My Body Book for Girls, By Lynda Madaras, with Area Maderas

Although I have talked a lot with my girls about all things female I was looking for a book that they could refer to if they didn't feel like talking to me - or for answers I might not know. I didn't want a book that talked about the rites of make-up wearing, or proms and diets. I wanted something slightly crunchy, or at least not trendy. I was thrilled I tell you, to find in the pads area of the book a whole section on using cloth pads and the impact of disposable paper products on our environment. Things were looking up. A quick perusal of the back of the book found resources for organic tampons, The Keeper, and several cloth pad resources. This book covers by chapter:

Puberty
Your Breasts, An Owner's Manual
Pubic Hair and Other Changes Down There
The Puberty Growth Spurt
Body Hair, Perspiration, Pimples, and Other Changes
The Reproductive Organs and the Menstrual Cycle
All About Having Periods
Boys and Puberty
Romantic and Sexual Feelings

It's a good read this book, I'd recommend you read it with your daughter. The authors are a mother-daughter team themselves. Paperback

Jane Iris New Moon Jewelry with Garnet Cabochon Stone

These sterling silver pieces are really beautiful, showing a crescent moon as well as a full moon with garnet cabachon stone in the middle. The pendant comes strung on a black rayon cord and the earrings on sterling ear wires. Just delicate enough and not too heavy on the earlobe, your daughter will love these symbols of feminine power. The moon has always been associated with female spirituality, and it's no coincidence that the moon's 28 day cycle and that of a woman is so similar.
