This is a great book for older children, ages eight and up. Although the book says twelve and up, a younger child can understand this story with some explanation. When my oldest daughter (now 20) was nine years old I read it to her every night before bed; she always begged me to keep going, way past our one chapter a night rule. I can also say that this was about the same time she discovered reading under the covers with a secret flashlight. This is a story of a homeless child who finds her true calling and her place in the world by watching and listening. It's a wonderful story of over-coming one's so-called shortcomings.
