She was excited to show me that she found a book that talked about human mamas feeding milk to their babies from their bodies as well as great lessons about other mammals, whales in particular who provide milk for their young.
Mariana and the Merchild, a Folk Tale From Chile, by Caroline Pilcher Lavishly illustrated by Jackie Morris, this book tells the story of a lonely old woman who learns about love and friendship via a gift from the sea. A small merchild, who needs protection from the angry sea wolves, is cared for by this old woman until her mother, the sea spirit, can make the sea safe for her.There is a gorgeous nursing illustration in this book that I would love to frame if I could.
